We are a practitioner-led cybersecurity software company specialising in automated vulnerability detection and reporting.

Our mission is to provide enterprise customers with a complete security testing solution, providing up to the minute coverage of a customers’ entire estate, be that web applications, internal/external infrastructure, or cloud deployments.

The Role:

This role sits within AppCheck’s VulnFeed team, tasked with producing high quality data products around industry standard security reporting mechanisms, such as Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (“CVEs”). Our team of technical writers work closely with both development and marketing teams to ensure that our presentation of critical security vulnerabilities is clear, concise and correct.

Due to the growth of AppCheck and an increasing volume of vulnerabilities we are looking for an experienced Technical Writer to join our team. We want to hear from you if you have a passion for security, combined with a strong ability to distil complex data into usable written information for development and marketing teams.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Working under pressure to produce clear, concise and correct technical writing.
  • Investigating individual vulnerability reports to determine truth, risk and priority.
  • Keeping abreast of the wider industry to understand potential opportunities and risks for the business.
  • Focusing on how our technical writing can deliver best value, prioritising work most valued by and important to our customers.
  • Working alongside teams tasked with more technical data management and presentation, to understand broader opportunities.
  • Working to understand customer needs and clearly prioritizing work to best deliver on customer product excitement and engagement.
  • Striving for continuous product improvement. Supporting in-house development team with clearly worded and reasoned requests for feature implementation and bug remediation.

 

Day to Day This Will Include:

  • Assessing and editing newly published CVE’s (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposure) to well-defined quality levels.
  • Identifying and linking Common Platform Enumerations (“CPE’s”) against CVE’s.
  • Responding in a timely manner to assess and update information for newly-announced Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (“KEVs”).
  • Ensuring that our presentation of critical security vulnerability information is clear, concise, and correct.
  • Prioritising vulnerabilities, such as urgent KEV’s vs. regular or non-critical.
  • Researching and assessing vulnerabilities and enriching exploit entries within the AppCheck platform.
  • Communicating with our development team so they can develop custom detection logic.
  • Working with our marketing team to help draft blog posts giving more detailed context and ensuring that customers receive timely notifications via our portal and social feeds.

 

Who We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to distil highly technical issues into concise summaries.
  • Ability to work autonomously against well-defined targets in a small team.
  • Proven experience of working as a Technical Writer, Security Blogger or similar role within the Information Technology sector.
  • Proven experience of using research against primary and secondary sources to inform your writing.

 

Desirable:

  • Prior experience of working in Cyber Security, particularly vulnerability assessment/management.
  • Prior experience of working in a Software Development role, particularly Web Application development.

 

Location & Remote Working:

Our office is based around Leeds; however, this role is predominantly remote, with a requirement to come into our offices circa 4 times per annum.
